Chapter 17 - THE REUNION IN THE STORM

The chief operative swung a heavy steel flashlight straight at Ryan’s head the moment he breached the cabin.

Ryan ducked beneath the blow, drove his shoulder into the man's ribs, and tackled him onto the aisle floor.

They tumbled backward through the luxury seats, trading fierce blows in the narrow space.

The operative grabbed Ryan by the throat, pinning him down and cutting off his air supply.

"You should have stayed in your cell, Whitmore!" the operative snarled, tightening his deadly grip.

Ryan’s vision began to spot with dark patches, but his eyes caught the small folded piece of paper lying on the carpet nearby—Leo's drawing of their family.

With a sudden burst of adrenaline, Ryan grabbed a heavy metal fire extinguisher mounted under the seat beside him.

He smashed the heavy canister directly into the operative’s temple.

The operative let out a low groan, his grip loosening as he slumped unconscious onto the aisle carpet.

Ryan gasped for air, pushing the heavy man off him, and instantly unbuckled Leo’s seatbelt.

"Daddy!" Leo screamed, throwing his small arms tightly around Ryan’s neck.

"I've got you, Leo! I've got you, buddy!" Ryan wept softly, lifting the terrified boy into his arms.

"Is Mommy okay?" Leo sobbed into Ryan's shoulder.

"She's going to be just fine, kiddo," Ryan promised, holding him close.

"We're going home," Ryan whispered.
