Chapter 13 - BREAKING THE SHUTTERS

Before Evelyn could answer, a loud explosion rocked the heavy steel shutters from the outside corridor.
BOOM!
The entire room shook, and dust rained down from the ceiling tiles.
The heavy steel door buckled inward, smoke pouring through the newly created cracks.
"What was that?!" Dr. Vance screamed, dropping to his hands and knees.
Through the heavy smoke, the metallic grinding sound of heavy machinery echoed from the hallway.
Someone was cutting through the lockdown shutters from the outside.
A massive hydraulic jaws-of-life tool forced the metal plates apart with a deafening screech.
Two figures dressed in tactical gear stepped through the tear, holding high-powered flashlights and heavy rifles.
Ryan pushed Sarah behind him, picking up the heavy metal tray as a improvised weapon.
"Hold your fire!" a deep voice shouted through a tactical mask.
The lead operator pulled off his helmet, revealing the rugged face of a man in his late 40s with a dark beard.
He was wearing a leather vest over his tactical gear with a motorcycle club emblem on his chest.
"Jax?!" Marcus called out in complete shock.
"You're late, you old dog," Marcus added, letting out a heavy breath of relief.
"Traffic was hell, Marcus," Jax replied with a rough, gravelly chuckle.
"Who are these people?" Ryan asked, his guard still completely up.
"Friends, Ryan," Marcus reassured him, placing a hand on Ryan's shoulder.
"Jax runs the local underground network that Evelyn tried to wipe out five years ago," Marcus explained.
"We've been waiting for the right moment to hit her private fortress," Jax said, pointing his shotgun at Dr. Vance.
"We have the antidote transport ready outside," Jax informed them.
"Where is my son?!" Ryan demanded, stepping past the tactical crew.
Jax’s face hardened, his playful expression vanishing instantly.
"That's the bad news, kid," Jax said grimly.
"Evelyn's main lieutenant took the boy from the house thirty minutes ago," Jax revealed.

"They're taking him to the private airfield on the docks," Jax added.
"They're putting your son on a private jet to South America."
