Chapter 19 - RECOVERING THE SOUL

Two days later, the morning sun broke through the storm clouds, washing the city in warm, golden light.
The quiet, private room on the top floor of the central hospital was peaceful and bright.
Sarah was sitting up in bed, color back in her cheeks, her bruised face beginning to heal.
Leo was curled up asleep on the edge of her bed, holding his favorite toy truck tightly.
The door clicked open softly, and Ryan walked in carrying two fresh cups of hot coffee.
Sarah looked up, her blue eyes filling with quiet, emotional tears as she smiled at her husband.
"Hey, hero," Sarah whispered softly, reaching her hand out toward him.
Ryan set the cups down and took her hand, holding it delicately between both of his.
"How are you feeling?" Ryan asked, kissing the back of her knuckles.
"Like I finally woke up from a ten-year nightmare," Sarah answered, her voice trembling slightly.
"The federal prosecutors came by this morning," Sarah revealed.
"They dropped all charges against you, Ryan," Sarah said with a joyful laugh.
"And they freezes all of Evelyn's assets," Sarah added.
"The judge signed full protective orders for us and cleared your past record completely," Sarah said happily.
Ryan closed his eyes, taking a long, deep breath of clean air for what felt like the first time in years.
"What about Marcus?" Ryan asked, looking toward the window.

"He's outside in the hallway," Sarah said gently.
"He wants to say goodbye before he leaves the city."
