Chapter 36: The Geneva Ascension

Twenty-four hours later. Geneva, Switzerland.

The primary research facility of Aethelgard Holdings was buried three hundred feet beneath the Swiss Alps, an architectural marvel of white marble and sterile glass. In the center of the subterranean dome sat the Lazarus Chamber—a massive, cryogenic bio-reactor pulsing with silver fluid and fiber-optic networks.

Clara stood by the glass observation deck, holding Alejandro. The baby’s skin was now translucent, the white light beneath his veins pulsing aggressively, threatening to tear his cellular structure apart.

Mariela Mendoza sat in a secured glass holding cell on the far side of the lab, stripped of her freedom but allowed to watch the culmination of her life's work. "He's magnificent," she whispered through the intercom speaker. "The perfect corporate god."

"He is a child, Mariela," Clara said coldly, her fingers tightening around the baby's blanket.

The laboratory doors hissed open. Daniel walked in, flanked by two armed guards. They hadn't killed him; Clara had insisted he be present for the activation sequence. She needed his biometric thumbprint—the final, encrypted genetic authorization key that Marcus had locked inside Daniel’s biological profile before his death.

"If I sign this, Daniel," Clara said, looking at him through the reflection of the glass, "the sequence completes. The child lives, but the man returns. If I don't, the line ends today."
