Chapter 39

Chapter 39: The Architecture of Ruin

The baby slowly raised his tiny right hand, pointing his index finger directly at Tomás.
Suddenly, the security collars around the necks of the private guards—and the electronic cuff around Tomás’s wrist—sparked with high-voltage electricity. Tomás screamed in agony, collapsing to the floor as ten thousand volts of localized current surged through his nervous system, knocking him into a state of vegetative paralysis.
"Incompetence is a liability," an artificial, yet chillingly distinct voice spoke through the lab's central audio system. It was the baby's neural output, translated directly through the pod's text-to-speech matrix.
The baby turned his ancient, icy gaze toward Mariela’s glass cell. With a single flick of his tiny wrist toward the main terminal, the air filtration valves in her cell reversed. Mariela gasped, clawing at her throat as the oxygen was rapidly sucked from her chamber, her eyes wide with betrayal as she collapsed into the dark.
"The old board has been liquidated," the synthesized voice of the child stated coldly.
Daniel stood up slowly, stepping between Clara and the cradle of the monster they had just unleashed. "What have you done, Clara? Look at him."
May you like
The baby looked at Daniel. For a split second, the coldness faded, replaced by an intense, possessive fixation.
"You possess the only genetic marker capable of overriding my administrative access, Daniel," the child’s matrix spoke. "You are the only threat left to the architecture. And yet... you are the only one who fought to keep the vessel alive out of love. A fascinating psychological paradox."
