Chapter 38: The Neural Dawn

The transformation took six agonizing hours.
The digital displays around the room monitored the neural transfer. Memory Imprint: 85%... 90%... 95%... The baseline data of Marcus Mendoza's entire life—his memories, his cold financial algorithms, his absolute lack of empathy—was being forced into the infant's expanding brain.
Daniel sat on the floor, his back against the glass, defeated. Clara knelt by the pod, her forehead pressed against the reinforced glass, praying to a God she no longer believed in.
Transfer Status: 100%. Synchronization Complete. Subject Stable.
The silver fluid drained from the pod with a loud siphoning hiss. The glass door slid open, releasing a cloud of cold, pressurized vapor.
The room went dead silent. Even the guards lowered their weapons, staring in absolute awe.
Clara reached inside the pod, her hands trembling as she lifted the child out. Alejandro’s skin was no longer glowing; it was a perfect, healthy porcelain white. His breathing was deep, strong, and steady. He was cured.
The baby slowly opened his eyes. They weren't the innocent eyes of a child, nor were they the wild, experimental eyes from the jet. They were cold, ancient, and completely empty.

He looked directly at Clara. He didn't cry.
"Grandfather?" Tomás whispered, stepping forward, his knees buckling as he prepared to bow to the returned king.
